Portraits 2012

Hey Friends!  I have been so busy with the holidays and my baby girl, well, not so much a baby anymore just turned NINE!!  Such a milestone for me.. I honestly don't know where the years have flown to.  We have had a wonderful nine years, and I so look forward to the next nine!  That said, I have had zero time to paint and post!  So please excuse my long absence :)  I promise 2013 has so much coming!!

I have a project I'm starting this next week.  I have been commissioned to draw/paint 6 small medical illustrations.  So get ready to see me out of my comfort zone...  I am excited to start these!!

I also plan to paint some western, wildlife, and maybe (MAYBE) some Native American paintings.  I do live in the Northwest after all :)

Well, to finish off my post, I thought I would just share all of the portraits I painted over 2012.  Mostly people, some animals.

~Have a great weekend~

Here's to the New Year!  I can't wait to see what 2013 will bring!

Self Portrait

I just started this self portait sketch.. I have never done pencil portraits, so I am kind of excited to see how I like it!  I am always just blown away by a fellow artist/friend, Michael Silverstone, and thought I would play with it a little!  Another update to follow soon!  Thank you!

Marina Update

Here is the latest update on the McCall Marina..

I have been so swamped with commissions (not that I'm complaining!!), so I haven't had the time to work on this one.  A few days of dedication should wrap this one up!

Trout Update

Layering in some washes on the trout, and the sleeves..

New Trout Painting!

I just started this trout painting last night!

I got pretty far on it last night considering I only had about an hour and a half to work on it!  I was going to suprise my hubby for Christmas, but couldn't keep it a secret.  I am terrible with gifts!  Stay tuned for an update later and have a great day!

~A Wedding at Elliston Vineyards~

My client had me frame the portrait for him.. I found this frame to be elegant and timeless.

This honestly was such a thoughtful gift from husband to wife for their 15th anniversary.  I can't wait to hear about the presentation of it!  Thanks for reading!

Update on Wedding Portrait Commission

I finally had the chance to get some hours in on this wedding portrait.  I have never painted a stone house before, so this was definitely new territory.  Initially I had planned to use some new watercolor pencils for the stone.  But as I studied the mansion, I decided to use a masking fluid approach instead.  Below is a picture of how I applied the masking fluid, and then did multiple washes to get the different colored stones.

After peeling off the fluid, I added more detail to the mansion and foliage.

Still a long way to go, but I have DEFINITELY made some progress!

Stay tuned and have a great evening!

New Commission!

Sorry it may be a little hard to see here.  This is a quick sketch of my latest commission.  I sketched this to show my client the overall portrait composition.  The couple were married at a vineyard in California, and He wants to have their first car ever purchased together in the portrait.  So neat!  So the painting will run something along these lines, but of course be a lot tighter and have some tweaks as well!  Stay tuned!

Thanks for reading!  Have a wonderful day!

Jordyn

Jordyn
Watercolor
16" x 20"

Well, she is finally finisheo!  I feel pretty pleased with how this little angel turned out.

I had the honor of taking all of her pictures to capture the perfect portrait!  And I can't tell you enough how greatly helpful it is to be able to work with my subject, and get to know her sweet, soft, and playful personality.  It allows me to better capture her spirit, and not just a face.

I hope I will have the chance to paint her again a few years down the road! :)

Thanks for reading!  Have a wonderful day!

Window Painting

Fall is HERE!!  Which means it's finally time to start some window painting!

I just did these fall scapes for a friend of mine.

He has TONS of windows!

We decided to do something non Halloween.  That way we can leave it up through November.

Working in the Studio.. :)

Just a little late night studio time..

I am really going to try and finish up this sweet little girl in the next couple days.  Her mommy has been patiently waiting for her.. :)

Small Update on Jordyn

I worked on Jordyn some last night and will work more today. She is starting to come to life now. I can't wait to have her whole face done!!

I still have so much to do obviously, but these next couple days will be dedicated to this portrait...

New Commission!

So here she is!  My next commission.  Meet Jordyn.  We just decided on this picture..  I took her pictures last Friday and there were so many adorable photographs to choose from.  The last couple days were spent going back and forth between a couple of favorites.

So my plan for this portrait is to paint her in a soft yellow dress like the picture below, and use her mouth from the lower picture as well.  I can't wait to get started on this little angel!!

Olivia Grace

Olivia Grace

16 x 20

Okay, so here it is!  It's all finished up and I already dropped it off at the framing store!  So I'll pick it up and take it to the fair tomorrow.  Is anyone else entering in the fair?  Or maybe you already did.  Tell me about your experience, I would love to hear about it!  I will try and post a picture of the framed portrait tomorrow.

And please excuse the terrible quality of these photos.. My camera just hasn't worked the same since I threw it :)  A bee landed on it, and I freaked out.. haha.. Oops!

Olivia, WIP

Okay, this is the last update I am posting until it's complete.  There is still so much detail to finish up and add to her.  But she is finally starting to look like Olivia!

Thursday, August 9, 2012

I am pretty much finished with the background now.. So time to start on her cute little face!

Olivia's New Portrait!

I started this new portrait of my youngest daughter Olivia last night.  I am trying to get it done and framed by Monday!  Do you think I can do it? :)  hahaha

Update on Sailboats..

I have layered in some water now.. I still have such a long way to go.  But before I do anything more to the water, the sailboats need to be finished.  So here we go!  I would really love to have this one wrapped up in a couple days..

Have a wonderful day everyone!

A little more smile :)

Barbara
Watercolor
16 x 20

I changed up her mouth a bit to give her a bigger smile!  She glows now and she is finished.  I apologize for the slightly blurry picture.  My camera is not working quite the same since I threw it when a bee landed on it!  Oh, the things I do sometimes.. :-/

Have a great day!

Marina, WIP

I was able to work on this painting a little during the Terrace Lakes Wine and Art Festival a couple weekends ago.  I still have a long way to go on it, but once I get started up again, it will finish quickly!  I love water and sailboats, so this is going to be one of my favorite pieces for sure :)

I think I'm getting closer...? :)

This has definitely been the most challening portrait I have worked on.  I gave her nose and eyes and chin some tweeking, and then added a little more depth to her hair.  I feel like she pops a little more now.
